Killers gig review - Sydney, the 11th of November 2007 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

The first thing that struck me was the fan base.  It was certainly Gen Y, which seemed strange considering some of the topics covered by a band like the Killers eg infidelity, alienation, sexual uncertainty...take it it back, does seem to reflect that Gen and all Gens.

The venue was ok, mainly seating but it did have standing room which was packed but sydney crowds seemed more subdued than say the brits or yanks.  It was a good vibe.  The omens were not good as the support band came on and the sound system was shocking.  Could hardly hear them, it was if someone had turned the bass and treble up full and bugger the distortion....you can see I'm very technical and up on this !

Bearing in mind that the killers are a fairly new band, think they have 2 albums, the response was pretty huge when they came...so much for being an indie, this is mainstream.  I personally like the fact that their first album sounded more english and it pulled from various indie bands like the cure, and even joy division but was quite unique and weird but bloody excellent.

The dreaded sound system kicked in again and in sounded terrible.  It was as if they were out of tune which I'm sure that they weren't but it sounded awful.  They went through all their key songs which got the crwod going but on the whole, just felt that they seem to be going through the motions.  Maybe they were pissed off with the sound system or they just couldn't be arsed.  Either way, they were still bloody good but did speak to the audience a bit not a load of banter.

There was an attempt at a super band finale with the support acts for the encore but was pretty flat.

Overall, a brilliant band let down by some very ordinary sound quality from the system which was a shame.  I do hope when they come back that they find a better place because it was shocking.  The price of tickets were not cheap eg $85 for standing annd no idea what the cost would be for seating.  It was $12 or so for a beer and water...bloody rip off.

Great night but could have been better.  Rate it as 6/10.
